Missions, screens and other hidden things

A few notes before delving into details:

1) These screenshots have been taken with the pSX 1.13 Emulator and using CEP 0.2.4 as a Gameshark device. Results may differ when trying on a real console. (I remember getting some different results when I tried these codes on my PS a few years ago!).

2) This emulator has problems rendering the "Electrosphere tunnel" of the pre-Mission Menu so don't think of it as a consequence of selecting those missions.

3) The Mission Select Code is 800BF65C 00xx, where xx corresponds to the Mission ID. Only values from 00 to 3B are valid, any value above 3B will cause the game to crash immediately.

4) Legend: NATT: Name Above The Thumbnail
                  SGSN: Save Game Screen Name
                  BSMN: Before Starting Mission Name

All credits to Fabian for going out of his way to uncover all of this, I've merely tidied things up for publication. There is some overlap with previous posts, namely "Digging Further" and "...and the digging comes to an end." but it's better organized and there's some new stuff too.

Mission ID 00

NATT: MISSION NOTIFICATION
SGSN: test map
BSMN: MISSION CODE

Selectable Aircraft: F-16XA Sakerfalcon, F-15S/MT Eagle Plus

Screenshot 1: mission thumbnail
Screenshot 2: Mission Briefing (Briefing Voice and text depends on the disc you're playing)
Screenshot 3: Mission Briefing
Screenshot 4: Mission Briefing
Screenshot 5: the game crashes!
Screenshot 6: if you save the game from the options menu, and then return to the title screen and  select "Download", you'll see this.

If you load the file, you'll see some pretty weird things. like a V-Mail from Erich which has a Fiona voice track (it looks very ridiculous), Fiona sending you like 3 V-mails one after another, and the news guy speaking background Music! (all of this depends on the disc you're playing).

Mission ID 13

NATT: (Garbled Graphics)
SGSN: ----
BSMN: GAME SHOW

Background Music: None
Selectable Aircraft: Su-43 Berkut

Screenshot 1, 2: mission thumbnails (may vary, I could not find an explanation to this)
Screenshot 3: there's an F-16XA flying in front of you when you start the mission, it's the only primary target in the mission...
Screenshot 4: ...but if you destroy it the mission doesn't end.
Screenshot 5: there's also two R-101 flying near the F-16.
Screenshot 6: do you see that white line in the map? They're the legendary floating gun turrets!
Screenshot 7: your allies from SARF trying to destroy an R-201 in the Southeast corner of the map.
Screenshot 8: at 4:00 a HURRY UP message appears
Screenshot 9: and finally at 5:00 you get MISSION FAILED.
Screenshot 10: if you save the game from the options menu, and then, you return to the title screen and select "Download", you'll see this.

If you load from that file, you'll start directly in the mission (like Electrosphere or several other endgame missions)

Mission ID 31

NATT: SELF AWARENESS
SGSN: ----
BSMN: NO TITLE

Selectable Aircraft: R-103 Delphinus #3

Screenshot 1: looks like Self Awareness.
Screenshot 2: but after selecting the plane and weapons, the game crashes in this screen.
Screenshot 3: if you save the game from the options menu, and then, you return to the title screen and select "Download", you'll see this.

If you load from that file, you'll start directly in the mission and the game will crash inmediately.

Mission ID 36

NATT: (Garbled Graphics)
SGSN: geopelia#1/end-a
BSMN: GEOPELIA

Screenshot 1: mission thumbnail (game crashes when trying to show the briefing screen).
Screenshot 2: but if you load it from the saved games screen, the mission will start normally.

Mission ID 38

NATT: ZERO GRAV(Garbled Graphics)
SGSN: outer space#0
BMSN: (Unknown)

Screenshot 1: looks like Zero Gravity, but the game crashes when trying to show the briefing screen.
Screenshot 2: if you load the mission from the saved games screen, the game will send you to the pre-Mission Menu.

NOTE 1: when you try this mission (this also applies to Mission 39) on a real console, the mission will play fine, with the exception of the introductory movie of the mission, which may be repeated a few times before the mission starts.
NOTE 2: this mission looks like a duplicate of Zero Gravity.

Mission ID 39

NATT: (Garbled Graphics)
SGSN: last enemy/m3#0
BSMN: (Unknown)

Screenshot 1: mission thumbnail (game crashes when trying to show the briefing).
Screenshot 2: if you try to load the mission from the saved games screen, the game will send you to the pre-Mission Menu.

NOTE 1: when trying this mission (also applies to Mission 38) on a real console the mission will play fine, with the exception of the introductory movie of the mission, which may be repeated a few times before the mission starts.
NOTE 2: this mission looks like a duplicate of Archnemesis.

Mission ID 3A

NATT: (Garbled Graphics)
SGSN: electrosphere#1/end-b
BSMN: (none)

Screenshot 1: mission thumbnail (Game crashes when it tries to show the Briefing Screen).
Screenshot 2: if you load the mission from the saved games menu it'll send you to the pre-Mission Menu.

NOTE: if I remember correctly, the mission will play fine when trying this mission in a real console. Still, the game doesn't display any name for the mission because that screen is replaced with those moving particles who appear before entrying the electrosphere.

Mission ID 3B

NATT: MISSION NOTIFICATION
SGSN: mission simulater (with an "e")

Screenshot 1: this looks just like the Mission Simulator!
Screenshot 2: ...but it's all bugged up.
Screenshot 3: after selecting the only playable mission and difficulty the game says that the mission is on Disc 2! (I was using that disc!).
Screenshot 4: if you go and change the discs the game will ask for the other.
Screenshot 5: if you load that "mission" from the saved games screen, the game will send you to an even more messed up version of the "mission" (see screen 7).
Screenshot 6: in this version of the mission simulator, selecting anything will make the game crash.

NOTE: the first 5 screenshots were taken with a method I think it's emulator only. It consists in: 1 - Starting any mission normally. 2 - Turning on gameshark while playing the mission. 3 - Pausing the game and exit the mission.

Canopy of Stars - strange arrow

Tunnel Vision - different font

Speed Changes

Last minute changes to their max. speeds? This is also the only way to see the X-49's specs in the Japanese version.

    1. It's not bugged. This missions are actually hidden. The only way to get to them is by entering cheats code. As for why are they buggy? I guess it's mostly because they are either not finished and/or there was something but the content of the mission was removed, only leaving behind the "record" of a mission being there.

  2. Hey! Could it be possible to play as a transport airplane or an helicopter with a gameshark code? It would be awesome! They are in missions and fly so they must be playable!
